Dota 2 is a real-time strategy (RTS)/multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game, the sequel to the Defense of the Ancients (DotA) developed by Valve Corporation exclusively through their content-delivery platform Steam.

Dota 2 is played in matches involving two competing teams of five players each. Team tactics and team co-ordination play a large role in this game. Team each occupies a stronghold building called the “Ancient”, one at each opposite corner of the map. The strongholds are each protected by multiple towers down three lanes; that the opposite team must destroy to win the match.

Each player controls a “Hero” character (a strategically-powerful unit with unique abilities and characteristics) that focuses on leveling up, collecting gold, acquiring items and fighting against the other team to achieve victory. With over 800,000 players each day, Dota 2 has become the most actively played game on Steam.
